The EMITTER is a Sound Floor located in the heart of a busy urban site punctuated by the movement of trams, the roar of trains overhead, and the sounds of the student crowds of the ZHdK. The Emitter aims to integrate all these aural experiences and re-transmit them in a new form. It also provides the sound infrastructure for the programmed events of Counter City. Electro-dynamic exciters vibrate the 50-square-metre floor, which is both a platform for the exchange of ideas and also a membrane of loudspeakers: a living floor that transmits the pure physicality of sound.

 

The electrodynamic exciters being fixed underneath the tertiary, we had to reduce the number of screws to limit the interferences caused by the wood which can decrease the sound quality of the device and thus the comprehensibility of the sound.

The choice we took was to make grooves in the longitudinal direction of the slats, between which were added small strips to create the binding.

The instalation being finished, anybody is allowed to use it in it's own way.

Le Transmitter est avant tout une construction fonctionnelle. C'est un compromis entre les dimensions de la proto structure et celles qui définissent confort et sécurité pour travailler dessus. Tout cela en prenant en compte les caractéristiques du matériel à disposition qui ont imposé une optimisation des dimensions.

Les échafaudages suivent le même système de porteurs croisés afin de pouvoir de se déplacer dans la proto structure.

The TRANSMITTER is designed to facilitate the construction sequence and operation of HOUSE 2. The Transmitter offers several platforms set at different heights in relation to the main structure, each one defining a workspace for assembling the project. It provides the infrastructure needed to operate the Emitter and the various programs offered by HOUSE 2.
