    - Infrastructure / study of the passage -

How can a system, a structure interact with the passage ? How can it be used to create a new space ?

These are the questions we studied in our project.

The main tool we used to answer these questions is a superposition of the plans of Avenue Georgette in Lausanne and Boulevard Sébastopol in Paris with the hybrid of the scenario model. It allowed us to study the different passages and possible positions of our system. This last one is based on a grid of human proportions and can adapt itself to the slopes and grounds thanks to modular feet.

The structure acts too as a modular system creating various spaces according to the elements dispositions. The spaces created become disruptors or anomalies in the middle of a regular and daily passage and modify it by its good-will to give it a new dimension.

The central idea of our project was to work on the notion of verticality, which we noticed was present on the facades of both sites. To express this verticality, we had the idea of creating a table constituted of vertical elements, in opposition with the horizontality which usually caracterizes the table.

Another key notion was the passage. Starting from this point, we made our table modulable: it allows passage in its highest position and provides it when it's down.

When outside of the global infrastructure, it takes both the function of a table but it can also become a bench. Both function create an anomaly in the rhythm of the street.

  • Infrastructure

Par Alison Blank, Marianne Ghorayeb, Virginie Schwab, Jonas Reymondin, 26/10/15

    W9 Establishment of the structure

The position of each element in the structure creates a new space. The door is the only fixed element. The table, the bed and the windows are flexible. According to each position, the space takes a new sense: it can allow, divert, bother or obstruct the passage.

This infrastructure can be situated in any kind of places where there is a passage, even though we worked on the sites of Lausanne and Paris.

In this sense, we created modular feet which adapt themselves on any slope.

Feet have been created for the bed, door and windows but not for the table which is hanged from the door.

Suerposition of the hybrid plan and real plan to study the passage and possible positions of infrastructure or each element

    W8 Study of the passage

This drawing represents the superposition between the plaster hybrid and the plan of the streets of Lausanne and Paris. The aim was to analyse the passage and find multiple positions to place the bus stop.

Imbriquement of the elements to form the bus stop

We want to build foots for the elements to create the link to the floor of Lausanne. Like this, each element can be adapted to the slope.

W7 The bus stop as an anomaly in the passage

We questionned the bus stop and his properties. How it is integrated in a street, why it is a fixed point in a location destinated to passage. Then, we want to dispose the different elements in the bus stop which could obstruct or facilitate the passage according to their disposition

    / Passage
