• W07 - Studying elements

Par Allae, Simon, Maria, Mathilde, Alexandre, 26/10/15

In the first attempt to study our element, the window, we searched through the campus and took pictures of windows of different types and sizes.

Pour étudier nôtre élément de la fenêtre on l'a ramené à son état le plus

simple, le cadre, et on s'est intéressé au rapport entre ce cadre et le corps.

Looking for the different positions when layed down.       Studying the angle of visions it generates with

a window next to the "bed".

Views from the bed user depending on his position and the position of the window.

Study of the view through the frame.

Study Drawing of the view through the frame from the perspective of a person lying down.

As demonstrated below, we continued by comparing the size of each window frame to the Modulor Man(by Le Corbusier). We used the iteration (bottom right) in order to investigate which form of window would best compose our double element (above the iteration).

  • DIRECTION

    Par Allae, Alexandre, 12/10/15

Direction :  The course along which a person or thing is moving or must move to reach a destination.

Instructions in how to do something.

Our title express the main ideas we want to show with our project, how the elements in a street are made to suggest the movement the users will make.

Combining the two space directions and definitions of Lausanne and Paris we obtained this hybrid, where the space is closed from above and where the walls we found from Paris gives a separation.

  • DIRECTION // process

    Par Allae, Alexandre, 12/10/15

    Starting point :

    Lausanne                               and                          Paris :

In both we had mostly the road and almost no buildings, so we decided not to focus on the facades themselves but rather the streets, their different elements, and how they affected the space and direction.

In lausanne at 1:33 we focused on the bus cables and their link to the building, by doing it in plaster, unfortunately the link was too small for the plaster to resist.

In Paris we got interested by the movement and the flow of people, and how the space was close horinzontally, rather than vertically like we saw in Lausanne

From those studies of Lausanne and Paris we developped an hybrid in 2 parts connecting on a stand showing the height difference between the two cities, height we used to combine everything.
