    Creation of the model (1:10)

Challange for the week 3 : define where my project will stand in the protostucture

The ground is made of wood. The idea of making a "parquet" seems to be a good choice to creat the condition of "ground". His oriotation follows the direction of the south.

My project will take place near the ground, in the first floor of the protostructure. So people can have an easy acces to it.

The wall will be filled with wooden panel to make a contrast with the floor.

I decided to work again on the position of my plans. Their location did not seem very convincing to me.

    Image Thu Mar 19 2020 11:21:51 GMT+0100 (heure normale d’Europe centrale)

My research was done through small models and small sketches. One of the plans, the one on the left, has been advanced so it strengthens this corner condition. Thereby people inside my space will not be bothered by those who are outside. This creates a condition of perpendicularity with the lower plane. (the ground)

The diamond plane has been moved in order that the corner of the upper plane and the corner of the diamond plane touch each other.

These two adjustments allow the project to be clean and precise.

The roof plan has also been changed. He is now more tilted. This reinforce the condition of firmness in the center to leave only the possibility of seeing to the left or to the right.

    Image Thu Mar 19 2020 11:18:27 GMT+0100 (heure normale d’Europe centrale)

one of my first sketches, here we can not see the diamand plan.

At the back (north) the spaces have also been changed. There was 50 cm on the left and 35 cm on the right, a place to walking and another place to sitting. Now those two spaces are 60 cm, enough space to walk on it and pass from one project to another.

    The protostrutre was also moved.

Its new position, one hand in the center of my space, allows the visitor to lean against it. It therefore becomes an obvious place for any visitor who enter in this space.

On the other hand, the passage of the protostructure in the end of my space close the view so that the observer can focus on the opening located on the left and right, (sunset and the sunrise) and not on what is in front him.

So finally, I can say that this space is for a student or adult who work all day. This person is probably around 25-40years old and has time to come only in the evening or in the morning.

At the end of week 2: I was thinking about the materials that could go with my project. Wood seems to me a good solution. It reminds me of the wooden chalet in the Valais. A peaceful place that could match with my place.

Research and development of the project from 4 plans of 3 meters by 3 meters by 10 cm and the Protostructure common to all students.

The objective imposed during this first week of ROOM was to create a space with a condition of interiority by using 4 planes. This space must have an entrance, must be included in the protostructure and must be on the scale of a human body.

    plan

    Image Mon Mar 09 2020 10:21:11 GMT+0100 (heure normale d’Europe centrale)

The method used, was the «research by drawing». Several try, several lines have been drawn on the same drawings (A1). In order to find an orientation for these 4 plans which suits me and with which I want to work. Without forgetting that this space must be able to interact with the human body.

My first thoughts turned to be the « course of the sun ». A sun rising in the east and setting in the west. From this starting point, I created a space where a typical character can have a view of the sunset and the sunrise only.

After the first drawings and the first reflections

The upper plane and the lower plane, both have one corner who is facing the south. This creates a direction to my project. In addition, this allows sunlight to come in only in the morning and in the evening. During the day, the sun illuminates only the top of the upper (tilted plan) plane and not the interior created by my 4 planes.

The interior of this space does not allow us to stand upright (if we use it properly) . The height gradually decreases from 2m30 (in the corner) up to 50 cm, the place where the upper and lower planes almost touch. This place is therefore made to sit, in the center (height : 1m10) of this space created by my 4 plans.

The upper plan is tilted, it allows protection during the day and lets the light in only during the evening and in the morning.

The entrance is on the left. It measures 1m90 which leaves space for a man of standard size to enter the ROOM.

    Image Thu Mar 19 2020 11:24:09 GMT+0100 (heure normale d’Europe centrale)

The perspective allows us to see the entrance on the left and the corner formed by two plane.

Axonometry allows us to see that there is a diamond plane, it creates a contrast with the other planes. It breaks the symmetry that there could have been if there had been two rectangular planes forming a corner.

The cross that forms the corner is offset from the lower plane, to allow people to sit and walk on the platform that can be seen behind the two vertical planes.
